
In the summer of 2009, an international camp was attended by 28 cavers from 7 different countries (Austria, France, Hungary, Italy, Mauritius, Slovenia, Sweden). All gathered in the hamlet of Aurenti, transformed for the occasion into base camp.
Discovery of underground Coulomp
During 10 days, 20 teams entered the cave for surveying and exploring the galleries of the cave of Chamois. And at August 16, two Hungarians and one Austrian discovered a gallery leading to the summit of a well 20 m, which could be heard above the roar of the river: the underground Coulomp had just been discovered! The following days were spent exploring the river, half a mile was well traveled. Downstream, the river disappears quickly into a trap, leaving an unknown area of several hundred meters to his resurgence to the source of Coulomp. The upstream exploration requires crossing long deep pools, and icy water of 5 ° C requires clothing with thick wetsuits. The pools of transparent water, deep, perfectly smooth, succeed for several hundred meters. They are free from boulder because the strength of the strong current that sweeps during floods. The last day, exploration was stopped on a deeper basin, while the distant roar of a rapid confirmed the continuation beyond this provisional terminus. We can already say that this is one of the most powerful and most beautiful underground rivers of France.
